Why Choose Lithium-ion
Lithium-ion has become the chemistry of choice for virtually all modern electric applications, ranging from consumer electronics such as smartphones to electric transportation all the way to large stationary grid-based energy storage systems. Secondary, lithium-ion batteries are noted for their high energy density and the long cycle life which makes them a great choice for any mobile power application.
The lithium-ion battery is comprised of several major components as shown in the diagram below. First, there is the cathode (positive side) and anode (negative side) active materials, which are coated onto a current collector which is usually aluminum or copper. The anode and cathode must be kept isolated from each other which Is done through the use of a physical barrier called a separator. The separator is a semi-porous material which allows the lithium-ions to pass but will prevent dendrites from crossing.
Finally, one anode, cathode and separator are finally assembled a liquid electrolyte is added to the cells The electrolyte acts as the medium which allows the lithium-ions to move from anode (negative) to cathode (positive) during discharge, and then back again during charge
