EnerDel technology offers advantages in:

Size advantage:

EnerDel Li-ion vs. NiMH HEV pack

Safety Advantage:

Nail Penetration of Overcharged Cell – Abuse test

  • Three types of cells
    • Standard 18650 lithium ion cell
    • 26650 commercial lithium ion cell
    • EnerDel high power lithium ion cell
  • Each of these cells are subjected to the identical test conditions.
  • Cell is first charge to 110% SOC (state of charge)
  • Then nail penetrates the cell

18650 Commercial lithium ion cell

  • Violent reaction part of jellyroll ejected from cell.
  • Temperature: +220°C

26650 Commercial lithium ion cell

  • Cover of cell popped off from case.
  • Temperature: +120°C

EnerDel lithium ion cell

  • We attempted to short the cell with a nail penetration from the side and top
  • We did repeated trials and none of them caused the cell to short.
  • This is a typical result for our cell – safe failure mechanism.
  • Temperature only increases to + 40ºC

Long life performance advantage:

Cycle Performance at + 55ºC

  • Retaining over 95% of initial capacity after 1000 charge and discharge cycles.

Wide temperature performance advantage:

Demonstrates that the technology shows good wide temperature range and very good performance at -30°C (95% of room temperature), crucial for automotive applications.

Excellent Thermal Management:

EnerDel technology demonstrates superior rate capability with low temperature increase.

This entails the EnerDel pack will only require normal conditioned air and standard components can be used
– translates into a more cost effective solution for vehicle manufacturers.

EnerDel's flat prismatic design allows for large current collectors for better power capabilities.

Thin flat mechanical design and special chemistry allows EnerDel to achieve excellent thermal management advantages.
