MAJOR FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the General Counsel, the Intellectual Property Specialist is responsible for front-line accountability for the Corporate IP program. ·Assists with the protection of diverse corporate intellectual assets, including IP procurement, protection, enforcement and licensing.·Actively engages with technical and business teams from diverse fields to provide timely IP support. ·Drives corporate IP strategies consistent with the Company’s overall corporate strategies that ensures strong, cost-effective protection for the Company’s products and services.·Establishes proactive counseling relationships across all levels of the organization and effectively interfaces with the R&D staff, outside corporate patent agents, other regulatory agencies, and numerous internal and external business and technical associates.
PRIMARY DUTIES
·Requires extensive knowledge of current patent and trademark filings and regulations.·Must be team player with proven track record demonstrating the ability to support the Corporate IP initiative at all levels within the corporate structure.·Must be able to work independently, exercise sound judgment and exhibit a strong understanding of the corporate business objectives when setting priorities while under time pressures and deadlines. ·Must possess critical thinking, analytical and communication skills, both written and oral and be detail oriented.·Requires strong interpersonal skills with excellent negotiation and dispute resolution skills.·Must have the ability to maintain high degree of professionalism at all times.·The ability to prepare clear, accurate and concise reports is required. ·Must be able to establish and maintain efficient data collection/record keeping systems. ·Must be able to easily adapt to changing situations.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
·Requires technical background in electronics, software development, physics, or chemistry. ·Related engineering degree considered a plus. ·Excellent verbal and written communication skills.·Excellent command of the English language – both oral and written.·Must be able to provide quality work with excellent attention to detail.·Good planning and organizational skills.·Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction.·Must be self-motivated and pro-active.·Ability to multitask and work in an environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.·Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information.
EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE
·5-7 years previous related experience is required.·Requires minimum five years experience in patent counseling/analysis, patent licensing and patent research, preferably in the high tech industry and/or chemical (battery) industry. ·BA/BS in related field required.·Experience in the automotive, powertrain or battery industry is a strong advantage.
