MAJOR FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES

The CAD Designer / GD&T Analyst is responsible for preparation of major design layouts of complex units and/or complete products.

PRIMARY DUTIES

The CAD Designer / GD&T Analyst will be responsible for developing mechanical designs for finished product used in house and by outside customers. The designer will be tasked with creating detailed product design specifications, communicating design concepts and technical plans, preparing bills of material, performing calculations in activities relating to form, fit and function, and ensuring cost effective designs in compliance with specified technical and contractual requirements.  Additionally, the designer will be responsible for reviewing documentation for the proper application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principles, performing tolerance analysis studies, and stack analysis. This position is for an outstanding designer, a real black belt in GD&T and Tolerance studies. This is not the job for a support designer.

 

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

The ideal candidate is a highly organized, self starter with a strong sense of urgency, creativity and confidence to achieve quality results quickly and efficiently. The candidate must be able to independently handle multiple tasks and problem solve individually or in a team environment. Candidate must have the ability to effectively communicate in written and verbal English in a cross functional team environment. Experience designing and documenting in a regulated environment (ISO9001 / QS9000 / ISO/TS 16949) is helpful.

          3 years Unigraphics NX experience creating moderately complex drawings, part and assembly models.

          AutoCAD familiarity and a working knowledge of Word, Excel, and other MS office applications.

          Skilled in the application and understanding of ASME Y14.5M,-1994 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, stacked tolerance allowance, stack up analysis experience in ensuring proper assembly and performance repeatability.

          Familiarity with both US and SI units and materials

 

EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE

          Minimum 7 years Product design experience in a related field

          Minimum 5 years in the application and understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5M-1994) preferably formal training / certification / technologist level or broadly equivalent combination of training and experience.

          Associates degree in related field

          Previous automotive supplier / automotive battery experience a plus.
