Desires to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and sustain the environment have fueled the growth of the hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) market. But for the auto industry and American drivers to realize the full benefit hybrid technology can offer, a better battery is needed. EnerDel holds the key. EnerDel is developing Lithium-ion battery (LIB) solutions for automotive manufacturers that will improve the performance, fuel-efficiency and cost of HEVs. Our new, highly reliable and safe batteries are designed to be lighter in weight, occupy less space, provide more power, more energy, and have a longer life than the nickel metal hydride batteries found in today's HEVs. EnerDel will manufacture its batteries in Indiana. By utilizing a unique, highly automated manufacturing process, EnerDel expects to succeed at being the first company to cost-competitively mass-produce a Li-ion battery in the United States. And by serving as a local supplier of advanced performance batteries, we are able to contribute to the success of the automotive companies who manufacture hybrids in North America. Our Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) offer advantages beyond the automotive sector. EnerDel's HEV battery technology can be used for specialty battery applications, such as military and aerospace, asset tracking, medical and other select markets. EnerDel was formed in October 2004, when alternative energy company Ener1, Inc., and the world's largest automotive components company Delphi Corporation ccombined lithium battery operations. EnerDel is owned 80.5% by Ener1, Inc., and 19.5% by Delphi, both public companies. The company’s management and technical team includes executives who have successfully built Li-ion battery companies. |
